Johnsons Leek Lyon Prizetaker Seeds are a very popular variety with a mild flavour. As its name implies, this type of leek is ideal for exhibition as well as in the kitchen since it produces large thick white stems. Not only is the leek a well-known winter vegetable, but its roots tend to help improve heavy soils. High in vitamin K and low calorie, this makes an excellent addition to soups, pies or simply grilled. From their versatility to their abundance of nutrients, stem vegetables are a delicious and healthy choice to add to your garden. The term stem vegetables might be new to you, but they are quite literally the edible above-ground stems of plants which are treated as vegetables. From asparagus to leeks, celery to rhubarb, you can enjoy vegetables that are entirely edible with little waste, a great option for sustainable living! Grow stem vegetables preferably in full sun, though they will tolerate partial shade.
